Vaughan Rangers Minor Bantam
Selects Blue
Season 2011-2012
Team Goals and Mission:? We will strive to win one tournament and our league Championship through
exceptional commitment to our team, respect for one another?s efforts and
achievements and our common love for the game of hockey. We will face adversity
together with dignity, poise and discipline remembering that our actions are a
reflection of our team. Finally, we will enjoy the game to its fullest and have
fun as we pursue excellence!
Coach?s Corner:
?Saturday was a strong start to the season for the team. I thought the
players played very well for their first game. The team was reminded after the
game of the importance of conditioning if they want to gain and maintain an
advantage over their opponents. They were also reminded of the extra-importance
of game preparation for mid-week games when it is too easy for busy schedules to
negatively impact their eating choices and hydration!??

Game & Practice Preparation:
Nutrition & Timing: Players should eat a meal 2-3 hours or snack 1-2 hours
prior to games/practices. Some common & easy food choices that are
recommended for meals and snacks can be found in the following CBC articles by
the renowned sports nutritionist, Jennifer Gibson.:

Hydration: Players should also start hydrating 1 hour prior to
games/practices by drinking 2 cups of water. The following is a great article
on hydration research on athletes with useful sports nutrition commentary from
Jennifer Gibson.
Drink your way to optimal performance
Proper Rest: Players should not exert themselves excessively prior to
games. Light exercise is fine but a competitive event where the player is
exerting himself to the max will obviously affect his hockey game. If there is
a separate sporting event on game day that the player really wants to
participate in, please advise the coach as this will normally affect the
player's performance and the coach should be aware of this impact.
Players should also ensure they get enough sleep during the night prior to a
game. Some players may need less, but most experts agree that means around 8.5
to 9 hours of sleep for 10-17 year olds.
